PRMG Leadership Conference · September 28–30, 2026 · Recap filed under September 30
Mortgage leadership requires time for decisions, coaching and conversations. Repetitive administrative work can consume that time unless a team deliberately improves its process. At the PRMG Leadership Conference, September 28–30, 2026, Abdel Khawatmi’s session, Automate the Routine. Personalize the Rest., presented the START framework for responsible AI execution.
The central idea was practical: choose a recurring problem, build a clear workflow and measure whether it helps the team. AI can support preparation and organization, while the professional remains responsible for the advice and the relationship. This recap is dated to the conference’s closing day.
S — Spot the friction
Begin with work that repeatedly slows people down. That could be preparing meeting recaps, organizing handoff notes or turning approved market information into an understandable explanation. Define the bottleneck before looking for a tool.
A useful starting question is simple: what does the team keep doing manually that needs more consistency? Answering it gives the project a purpose and makes the eventual result easier to judge.
T — Teach it the business
AI needs context. Explain the audience, the task, the objective, the boundaries and the desired output. A recap for a processor needs different information from a market explanation for a buyer. Clear instructions help the draft fit the real job.
Use approved PRMG systems and information. Borrower nonpublic personal information and confidential company data should stay out of unapproved tools. Protecting information is part of the workflow from the beginning.
A — Automate the routine
A repeatable process can connect meeting notes to a recap, assigned actions and a follow-up draft. Another can help adapt approved market information for consumers and referral partners. The value comes from completing a useful sequence of work with a clear handoff.
Decide which steps can be automated, which need AI assistance and which must remain with a person. Responsibility stays with the team even when the preparation becomes faster.
R — Rehumanize the experience
Recovered time should improve the client and partner experience. Use it to make the call, explain the reasoning behind an option or coach a team member through a difficult situation. A faster draft helps most when it makes room for a better conversation.
This is especially relevant in mortgage lending, where the same headline or document request can mean different things for different households. The advisor needs to understand those differences.
T — Track the impact
Measure time saved after review and correction, response speed, completed follow-ups and the quality of the experience. Track whether the process produces useful conversations and reliable next steps. A tool count does not tell you whether the business improved.
Put START to work
Pick one bottleneck and name an owner. Document how the task works today, prepare a reviewed AI-assisted version and compare the results. Keep what helps, fix what creates rework and expand only when the process is dependable.
